Senior Interior Designer
Melbourne
$100,000 - $135,000 + Superannnuation
We're looking for a senior designer to join a Melbourne studio carrying a steady project load across a D&C environment. If you're at the point in your career where you're leading projects from scratch, owning client relationships, and directing junior team members without needing a lot of hand-holding, this is worth a read.
The role
You'll carry two to three concurrent projects, reporting directly to the Head of Design. Getting involved from concept through to delivery, presenting to clients, and making design decisions you can stand behind, you’ll be seen as a leader in the team. You'll have a junior designer and documenter working with you on project teams, so part of the role is directing that work effectively and helping those people develop.
The Melbourne project mix is predominantly commercial interiors including spec fit-outs, lift lobby upgrades and end-of-trip facilities, tenant fit-outs across a range of sectors (including an exciting heritage retrofit ). It's consistent volume with enough variety to keep things interesting.
It's a collaborating environment, but the expectation is that you can operate with a reasonable degree of independence. That doesn't mean you're without support, but it does mean you're not waiting to be told what to do next.
What we're looking for
Technically, Revit and InDesign are a must, you’ll need to be hands-on as required. Enscape is required too, though there's some flexibility on that if the rest of your profile is strong and the broader team can carry the gap while you get up to speed.
More important is where you sit capability-wise. We're looking for someone who can lead projects from the first client brief - not just develop and refine work that's been handed to them. You're confident in front of clients: pitching ideas, presenting work, managing the relationship across the life of a project. You can mentor a junior without micromanaging, and you know how to give direction clearly.
Attitude matters as much as experience level. Curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine appetite to keep developing are weighted alongside your technical profile. The team has room for someone who wants to grow into the role, not just someone who ticks every box on day one.
How the team works
The first three months are fully in-office. It's how the studio brings people in, builds trust, and makes sure you actually absorb how things work before settling into a rhythm. After that, the expectation is three days per week in-office (with the rest from home) providing genuine flexibility around personal commitments.
